New York Times Debuts 2 Web Sites
New York TimesNEW YORK (AP) Semptember 6 2006 - The New York Times Co. rolled out two new real estate Web sites on Wednesday, as the media company expands its coverage of luxury and vacation homes.
The “Great Homes” site contains a database of more than 30,000 luxury and second-home real estate listings in the United States and Europe, along with destination and lifestyle guides, Web exclusive articles, videos, slide shows and interactive maps.
The “Home Finance Center” site is geared toward helping consumers with the mortgage process, and offers access to mortgage calculators and mortgage and home equity charts from Bankrate.com. It also provides a toll-free phone service from LeadPoint that lets users talk to lending professionals and a mortgage finder feature from FormServer to get online mortgage quotes.
“Great Homes” complements the newspaper’s coverage of the luxury and vacation home market, said Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager, NYTimes.com.
The two sites were developed along with some of the company’s properties including The Boston Globe, International Herald Tribune, The Ledger, Sarasota Herald-Tribune and The Press Democrat.
In July, Boston Globe Media, an arm of The New York Times, announced plans to launch a magazine featuring luxury homes and design.
Shares of the New York Times slipped 24 cents to $22.36 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
